KDS Questions and Answers
|
Hello Everyone! Whether you are a return guest or this is your first Knocking Down Silos (KDS) event, we wanted to answer several questions to help you get the most out of the evening. 1. . How exactly will this event help me get a job or new customers? This is not a standard networking event where someone lectures you on how to shake hands, update a resume, dress for success or on how to give an elevator pitch. We have been running KDS since 2005 and have connected thousands of real people for jobs, sales and opportunities. Attendees include students and CEOs, blue collar and white collar workers, and employed and unemployed folks. First, we are going to show you something called “3rd gear” behaviour. You will then practice this “language of likeability” with other attendees. This will naturally lead to new connections and then we’ll show you how to continue this after the event finishes. KDS Graduates (we call them RHBs or real human beings) retain what we teach for weeks, months or even years. 4. Is there anything I can do to prepare for KDS? The rule of our event is that we can’t get you a job or sell your product but we might be able to get you an introduction. So don't think too much about your product (you or your company), think about who you want to meet. It's best to make a list of your “target market.” Think hard about the company you want to work for or the type of people you want to meet. We recommend you read how to network for a job or client and complete an Outreach document to bring along (this is a wish list of companies or clients). If you have some business cards, you can bring those. Please bring a notebook and a pen. Your resume or a product brochure is fine but it is important to realize your personality, not your product or resume, is what opens doors for you. Would you like to chat with other people who have attended the talk and get some insights? All of the RHB’s listed here and here can answer your questions about the value they received. Many folks ask us about dress code. Think how you judge people by their appearance the first time you meet them. Dress in a nice presentable fashion and try wearing something that tells us something about you (the watch your father bought you, the scarf you purchased on vacation, a pin from a local charity etc.) 5. Is there an age limit - university and up? (I know my son would love the 3rd gear part but he is in only in Secondary school) There is no age limit on attendance. We frequently have highschool and university students attend. In fact, many people look at Knocking Down Silos as a wonderful talk to young people on how to make a great impression when trying to be successful. Our youngest attendee to date is 8 year old Olivia. 6. Will your event be tracked on Twitter? Yes, please follow #RHB and you will see the Tweets. |
